About the Event

Please join us for an In Person Meeting of the Membership. Ivy Horan, DSW, LCSW, will lead a discussion about "Addressing The Diagnostic Gap for Autistic Females"

This presentation is designed to improve therapists' ability to assess, diagnose, and treat autism in females. Mental health therapists are the most likely group to encounter undiagnosed autistic females as they seek counseling for anxiety or depression. Often these females have been diagnosed with a grab bag of disorders such as bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, resistant treatment depression, anxiety, and OCD. Although the CDC claims the ration of autism is 4 males to every 1 female, more current research suggests it is actually closer to 1:1. The presentation's objectives are to assess clinician biases toward autism, become more familiar with the DSM-5 criteria for autism diagnosis, and to be more comfortable in utilizing the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria when evaluating clients.
